  1. What a beautiful picture, one I've never seen
She was a truly remarkable woman, dedicated and dutiful.
    May she rest in peace.

    1. I wanted a photo of her in her youth - not as the frail old woman she gradually became. Yes - "remarkable" is the right word Christina. Something died in all of us today.

    2. Beautiful, as Christina said. The photo to remember her by.
You would have cut the mustard as editor of The Picture Post.

    2. Through every day of her life.
C.S. Lewis wrote a letter in which he described the weight of glory that lay on her young shoulders at the unseen anointment during the Coronation.
Elizabeth heard of the death of her father, King George VI when she was at Treetops in Kenya with Prince Philip.
They stood talking for some time, outside the safari lodge.
She took in the news of the passing of her father whom she loved and who never wanted to be king.
Life must be lived forward but can only be understood backwards.
The life of Queen Elizabeth, the history of her time and the story of the Commonwealth come alive now.
Britain is a different place without the Queen Elizabeth II.

  14. Not a shock, but still very sad. In my country, she was well loved and respected - not just by her (and her husband's) many relatives. To me, she was the embodiment of dignity, and I think she truly believed in what she did.
    Wonderful picture.

  15. I feel totally bereft. She has been there all my life bar the first year. To hear them saying King Charles seems very strange.

  16. Thank you from Adelaide Australia too. Queen Elizabeth was such a fine lady, doing her duties always with grace and goodwill. Very much admired and liked by me. Will you watch the funeral cortege as it travels from Balmoral to Edinburgh to London?

  21. I'm a great fan of the Queen.
I read this quote today and it really sums up the reason for my respect and admiration:

" A thousand photographers waited in earnest for a sign of annoyance, exasperation, arrogance, vanity, or aloofness. And yet in years and years and years, none came."
