Departed

Song for The Departed

I thought I heard you last night

As this wind-pommeled house

Creaked

Yes, before I was submerged in sleep

I thought I heard you.

How faint your voices were

As if from far away

Remembered

Only dimly like your faces.

Oh, how faint they seemed.

Life pulses like oceans

But its foreverness is

Untrue.

I could only sense the darkness

Though my hands reached out for you.

  3. An excellent poem, Yorkster.

Are those your parents? And is that you?

  4. LIBBY/JENNY Thank you.
RHYMES WITH... It's my parents and my oldest brother Paul - probably in the summer of 1949. All three are "departed".

  5. Beautiful, excellent - I generally see, not hear. See probably wrong - visualise (seems more accurate) someone in that empty chair.

  6. My grief has also resurfaced with the news that John shared. You have touched the inner depths of that grief with your words. Beautiful poem, Mr. Pudding.

  7. I'm in absolute love with this poem, YP, well done! I often think I've heard the voices of those I've loved and lost and this poem captures that dream-wish perfectly.
    Thanks...
