Vince |
What happened to Vince was appalling, unforgivable, heinous, heartbreaking, vile, brutal. cruel and a dozen other judgemental words. I can only shake my head in disbelief that a bunch of sub-humans broke into Thoiry Zoo near Paris on Monday night and killed Vince. He was a four year old white rhino.
And after killing him, the murderers used a chainsaw to cut off Vince's front horn before fleeing with their booty. What is wrong with such people? Have they no compassion? No humanity?
And what is wrong with those who revere rhino horn and treasure its presence in eastern medicines? They must be utterly stupid and in dire need of education for of course rhino horn has no value whatsoever in any medicinal concoctions. Quite simply, it does not work! Why can't they grasp that?
If that message could be driven home in China and Vietnam, demand for rhino horn would gradually disappear and the wicked men who kill rhinos would find that their market had entirely evaporated. Then the rhinos could graze in peace or sleep soundly in their zoo enclosures.
I am so sorry Vince. So very sorry..
I didn't hear about this! I can only agree with your long list of adjectives. I'm dismayed at the continuing attitudes that allow and encourage this kind of thing
ReplyDeleteBad enough that Vince was even in a zoo but you might have thought he would have been safe there. Horrific.
DeleteThis is awful news. I despair of humans ever getting any better.
ReplyDeleteWe can be so good, so kind, so generous, so creative but we can be devils too.
DeleteI agree that this is a most despicable action. I wonder where the security was in the zoo?
ReplyDeleteSee my answer to Peace Thyme below.
DeleteWe heard about this yesterday in the states. It was a major discussion at Stitch & Bitch at my home today. Just horrible! Is there no security there? Poor guy. Poor us for having to live without his beauty and vibrant being.
ReplyDeleteThere certainly was basic security - like locked gates and high fences. Who could have ever foreseen that people could sink as low as this? I don't blame the soo owners at all.
DeleteLike kylie, I didn't hear about this until I read it now on your blog. And like Jennifer, I despair of humans ever getting any better.
ReplyDeleteOne should think that in our day and age, people have stopped believing the fairytales of old, about rhino horn and tiger teeth and whatever else it is they use in oriental medicine.
Yes. One would have thought that but in Africa, 1,338 rhinos were killed by poachers in 2015.
DeleteWicked. Why don't these foolish people just chew their fingernails instead of buying rhino horn.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. The health benefits would be identical.
DeletePerhaps free access to Viagra in China might stop those idiots over there buying the crushed horns powder to better their libido.
ReplyDeleteAre you speaking from experience Derek?
DeleteViagra is probably manufactured in one of those countries, and should be readily available anywhere. My reaction is this: what is it about some men that makes them think they have a need and a right to screw anything they want for as long as they live? Kill it, screw it, rape it, whatever it takes to get off. Guess what guys, there's more to life than that. The fellows who know this are more likely to having loving families and happy lives. Free Viagra? How about free, mandatory castration for anyone who hasn't figured out how to deal with hormones by the time they're 25? I'm just sick and tired of asshats and their stupid wars and every other way they've come up with to satisfy themselves.
DeleteWith strong views like that Trump should make you his Health Secretary!

DeleteThat broke my heart when I read about it in the paper today. I just don't understand people...I really don't. I feel not only heartbroken, but disgusted and very angry.
ReplyDeleteAnd as far as the security is concerned, as raised by some - I'm sure security measure were/are in place. Why oh why should everything, everywhere be made secure from the heartless clowns such as those who committed this horrible crime?
DeleteI know I'm not explaining this correctly here...but I think you probably get the gist of the thoughts I'm trying to express. Feed the bastards to the animals that a locked up in the zoo!!
I just get so fed-up with the actions of so many within our society...throughout the world. Maybe I will head off to Venus, Mars or the Moon!!
I doubt that many animals would like the taste of those scumbags but perhaps the alligators would give them a try. Like you, I am puzzled why some folk's first thought is to question the zoo's security instead of focusing on the perpetrators.
DeleteAnd in the wild it's even worse - they cut the horn off and leave the animal to bleed to death. It's horrible and heartbreaking and I can't un-read or un-see the headlines, stories and videos I've stumbled upon or in some cases made myself watch because I feel a certain obligation to witness the pain and not turn away. In some cases it's also a fact that people who do cruel things are trying to provide basic necessities for their families. I doubt that is a factor in this case, though.
ReplyDeleteIn Africa good people would never stoop this low - even if they were living in abject poverty. The trade is driven by Chinese gangsters. They see it as a get rich quick scheme and have no scruples whatsoever.
DeleteIt's a horrible story. Sickening. I'm hoping that whatever security cameras were about will tell the tale and someone will be caught.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I am hoping too but I just wish that God would press the rewind button so that Vince can comes back.
DeleteI can think of a few more words to describe the people who did this but I don't want to sully your fine website.
ReplyDeleteA fine website? Is that what spiders look out for?
DeleteI have nothing to add because I agree with everything that's already been said. It's heart-breaking, poor Vince.
