Times

"The Times". That's a name to conjure with. For two hundred years it has been one of the principal organs of the British state. It is read by politicians, aristocrats and academics. The fact that it is now owned by a snake called Murdoch doesn't seem to have tarnished its influential reputation.

Yesterday the main news story in "The Times" concerned shenanigans at Trump's White House with many insider revelations from Michael Wolff's "Fire and Fury - Inside The White House". Oh dear, Donald! No wonder your fancy lawyers are belatedly attempting to block the book's publication. I guess the truth really hurts doesn't it Donald?  Oh dear.

So there's Trump on the front page...
But what do we find in the middle of yesterday's edition?

We find an article about food trends in 2018. This includes reference to Bosh! by the journalist William Sitwell: "...vegans now come in pairs. There is the beardy, black-shirted, plant-munching duo Bosh! (expect a book). And the Irish brothers the Happy Pear (beards and mainly doing handstands), who come with an entire food range."

To illustrate the article there was a big picture of Ian (left) and his Bosh! mate Henry:-
My son in "The Times"! Good heavens! And he's not there for bank robbery or mass murder either!

  1. What a funny post. I was thinking "oh no, you shouldn't have to look at Trump on the cover of The Times...is nothing sacred?" Then I saw the lovely picture of your son and Henry and my heart leaped up. I don't picture myself being vegan, but what a wonderful contrast to the Unmentionables who seem to be infesting my country. Thank you, thank you! (Yes, I'm being a bit OTT, but things get worse and worse here and good news is so welcome.)

    1. Thank you Kate and please... you don't have to be vegan to enjoy occasional vegan meals. Veganism isn't a religion. The rest of us are allowed to dip in and out.

Nice to see that Trump is digging his own hole.

    2. Didn't mean to suggest that I scorn veganism (as I do some religions), but I don't have the energy to be that careful with what I eat. In fact, we had a vegetarian Christmas dinner, but yes, I did use creme fraiche in the sauce. I think old people do need the occasional indulgence.

    1. You are usually so nice to people Red. How come you become wicked whenever Trump's name is mentioned?

  3. I am so impressed with his achievements. I also tell everyone I can that I know the dad of the BOSH guy. It's a tenuous connection but I don't have any other names to drop :)

    1. I have to re-programme my memory, it's not BOSH, it's Bosh!

    2. He is not "there" yet. When the book is launched and when/if it is hugely successful then the money will roll in...I hope. I confidently expect him to be on national TV in the coming months.

    3. he is an Englishman with an English company and it is known in Australia. I say he has already made it even if the money isn't rolling in yet!

  4. That is wonderful and exciting! (the Bosh! part, not the Trump part) I like Red's observation too.

    1. Thank you Jenny but I find the Trump part exciting too. He is starting to implode.

  5. As a newby here I had to do a bit of Googling on Bosh! I see it is a cookbook (and maybe more?) on Vegan cooking. And your son is one of the Bosh! masters. That's great.
Now as to the other, I am sorry that you have to be plagued there way across the pond by that mug on the front page of your newspaper. We can't get away from him here but you all should be spared.

    1. America is of course the most important force in the western world so the state of the US presidency has always been an important feature in British newspapers.

If you want to see some of my son's vegan recipes go to boshtv Linda. Thanks for calling by.

  6. You have every reason to be proud of Ian. I'm sorry Trump's ugly face us on the cover of that issue, though.

    1. Melanoma must have found him attractive - not ugly - unless of course it was the money that magnetised her!

  8. Ian is going to become very famous and he will be able to buy you lots and lots of pies and pints. Well done BOSH!

  9. Congratulations for Ian and his mate being in the Times, and in a form and context they (and you) can be proud of!

    1. It's good to be (relatively) famous for something good. I am hoping that as 2018 advances his success will grow.

  10. I follow Bosh on Facebook! I did not even realize he was your son...great site, lots of good information.

And I will not get started about Trump. Every day is more of a disgrace. Yesterday, for example, was the last day of Meals on Wheels programs for certain sections of the country. A program cut by Trump; why, I have no idea, other than perhaps to fund his golf outings.

    And now I'm done.

    1. Surely...surely the publication of "Fire and Fury" marks the beginning of the end for Senor Trump. It is all unravelling.

    1. Yes - thanks Lee. Given all your lovely recipes and your experience as a cook, perhaps you should launch your own recipe book called perhaps "By George".

  12. Years from now, you will look back into your scrapbook of press clips and remember this day fondly as the first time your son and Bosh made the Times. He'll be a regular feature soon. How exciting!

"Fire and Fury" will only gladden the hearts of der Drumpf's opposition, since his supporters don't (or can't) read, but it's delicious to see how this gets der Drumpf's panties in a twist. I'm sure that the special investigation by the FBI will reveal the real dirt. Almost makes me look forward to 2019.

    1. "The Times" costs £1.60 so I only bought one Jacqueline! By trying your lodger's vegan meals you prove that people don't have to be vegan to try vegan recipes. You are a flexitarian!

  16. Hello from Hawaii. Red of Canada sent me. What a truly fun blog you have. Red is right, of course. And you're of the same political persuasion as so many of us. Trump drives us nuts. He is such an embarrassment to our country and his supporters just don't get it. All I can say is he did not win the popular vote. It's something. Not enough, but something. Three more years... sigh...

  17. Gracious! I got into Trump and forgot to congratulate you about your gorgeous son!
