Shirley spotted this Sheffield public bus down at Pond Street Bus Terminus. She snapped it on her phone. "Lose Your Veganity" is a clever slogan for BOSH! Of course it is a little bit naughty but essentially it is saying - try vegan cooking with the help of "Bish Bash BOSH!" You can see the front cover of the book below the slogan.
Down in London, six red buses are currently displaying identical advertising. Just the other day, on Twitter, someone posted this picture of The Number 13 on its morning route:-
Meantime your genial blog correspondent has been visited by an old and most unpleasant acquaintance called Gordon Gout. He first came to me in January 2005 and in the intervening fourteen years there have been intermittent visits connected with the chemistry of my body. Often months have gone by without a single visit.
Currently my left big toe is throbbing like the devil and I am limping rather than walking. In my experience, gout is like an internal poison. Okay, the toe is throbbing but the rest of me is somehow physically stressed and I will not be back to normal until Gordon Gout disappears. It will be like a cloud lifting.
On Thursday, I managed to hobble a few yards in Whirlowbrook Park. I wanted to take some pictures of the arum lilies that grow there each spring - down in the muddy hollow adjacent to Limb Brook. They are spectacular plants that look as though they belong in science fiction.
My dad had gout and he would agree with you as to the misery it brings. I hope it leaves as quickly as it came.
ReplyDeleteThose are indeed showy blooms. Thank you for hobbling to get them.
Just like the Canadian Mounties, the blogpost must get through.
DeleteSorry to hear you are sick. Have you been to your doctor and gotten some medication to help treat it? I know there is not a lot you can do but there are some medications that can keep it from becoming even worse I believe. Rest and get another good book to read. I sure enjoyed the pictures of the lilies! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI must have consumed something that has sparked this attack. Fromm past experience I will be okay in a day or two. In fact, this morning it is feeling better - not worse.
DeleteGout is absolutely miserable. I've had enough friends who have told me what it's like.
ReplyDeleteThey must be sinners like me to suffer this affliction.
DeleteI'm sorry to hear about your gout. I've heard that it really hurts. Gregg had a kidney stone this morning, so I suppose Mrs. Pudding and I are both caring for big man babies this weekend! Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though, I hope you feel better soon. I love the lilies and the clever ad for Bosh! too!
I'm a Big Man Baby! Mama! Mama! Milk time!
DeleteSorry to read you are not well. I hope that you get some relief soon.
ReplyDeleteThe lilies are quite stunning!
Thanks for calling by CountryMum and fpor leaving an encouraging comment.
DeleteOh dear, gout is a nasty visitor. Perhaps a vegan diet could help!
ReplyDeleteYou are probably right Sue. It's all about chemistry.
DeleteHope you are soon feeling better. Many years ago I visited my cousin who had gout.....he could hardly breath without it hurting!
ReplyDelete(Did you know that W.H. Smith are selling Bish Bash Bosh half price? )
Pricing games seem to be played with most cookbooks these days. You never have to pay the original price.
DeleteVeganity is a very clever name.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the gout, illness is so frustrating
As you know all too well, pain free mobility is a blessing that none of us should take for granted.
DeleteThat's a catchy slogan. Sorry to hear about the gout and hope you're better soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you ADDY. If you get on a London bus with a Bosh! slogan on the side just tell the driver you know me and you'll get a free ride.
DeleteI've had one bout of gout and it was incredibly painful - I thought I'd broken my toe! Couldn't believe when the doctor told me it was gout - he laughed at the look on my face!
ReplyDeleteHope you recover quickly.
Gout is not a laughing matter. You should have slapped the doctor's face with a wet haddock!
DeleteMy son had a friend who went to the doctor due to his gout. The doctor told him all the normal advice- no drinking, no rich foods, no fatty meats, etc. The guy said, "But I'm a vegan and I don't drink!" Of course it is related to diet and so forth but there are other triggers. Stress being one, I think. Take care Mr. P. and let your body heal.
ReplyDeleteI think that gout sufferers have different triggers. It is often said that eating black cherries can be a helpful way of re-adjusting the body's chemistry to repel gout.
DeleteI have heard that too. At least that's easily tried and not unpleasant.
DeleteI kid you not, Tom has had gout on his ears. I know, we thought it was only on big toes but it isn't. But then Tom has had everything. Our insurance man many years ago called him the million dollar man, lol
ReplyDeleteShouldn't laugh really,
Briony

I know you can gout in your ankles or knees but I had never heard about ear gout! Are you sure you hadn't been boxing Tom's ears?
Deleteoh yeah my dad had gout, think he had to change his diet drastically - seafood or shellfish being the main culprit.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is difficult to pinpoint what causes an attack. Drinking sufficient water each day is, I think, helpful.
DeleteFrom all I've read and heard about from some who have suffered from gout it is very painful. I hope you're taking the necessary remedies to remedy your discomfort, Yorkie...take care. I hope it goes away soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lee. Past experience is that the discomfort will evaporate after three or four days.
DeleteI still haven't seen one of those buses, but I'm keeping my eyes open!
ReplyDeleteIn America we know those arum lilies as "skunk cabbage." I believe it's regarded as an invasive species in the UK, actually, but they ARE interesting looking.
My dad had gout. It is no fun, but it should be pretty easily treated, right? I've never heard of the black cherry remedy -- that sounds a lot more pleasant than taking medicine!
Yes. You can get effective medication for gout but my attacks have been so infrequent that I have just battled through them. I don't like taking any pills but if the attacks were more frequent I would have to give in.
