BOSH!

Before the doors opened

It has been a while since I mentioned my son Ian. As a number of visitors to this blog will remember, he is one half of the successful BOSH! duo who, in the last six years, have helped massively  to put vegan cuisine and vegan cooking into mainstream consciousness.

Vegans are no longer tree-hugging pasty-faced hippies who dine on lentils and carrot soup. Besides, Ian and Henry have no big issue with the suggestion that it's okay  to be a part-time vegan because veganism isn't a religion. If you can't go the whole way, maybe you can just go part of the way.

Personally, I am an omnivore but on days that happen to be meatless without dairy products or eggs, I am being vegan. Perhaps I used to but nowadays I never bristle about the term.

Today and tomorrow, BOSH! have a swanky trade stall in the Olympia exhibition hall in Kensington, London. It is hosting the Plant Based World Expo Europe! Ian sent us the photos that illustrate this blogpost.

By all accounts, everything at BOSH! continues to tick over nicely. This year's book was titled "BOSH! On A Budget" and next year yet another recipe book will be published but I am currently sworn to secrecy about its title and contents. It may cause some ripples in plant-based circles.

Meantime, I thought I would have another look at the BOSH! Wikipedia page. It is now much more informative than it was two or three years ago and if out of curiosity you would like to know more please go there

  1. I find it interesting that they're both attired in black.

  2. Perhaps the duo should visit Australia for a tax deductible promotional tour. They will need an assistant and an organiser. Who could they use for that?

  3. It's good to know that Ian is still enjoying his waves of success! I wish him all the luck in the world with the (still secret) forthcoming book.

  4. I love this all so much! Their TikToks are wonderful! I want to make those gyros loaded fries to bad! I just might have to do that. I think it's a beautiful thing how Ian and Henry bring the joy to vegan cooking and eating. No guilt. Just deliciousness.

  5. My late brother-in-law grew up in Malawi (his Scottish parents emigrated from Glasgow after WWII) and he was a big carnivore like yourself.
My mother would go down to Cheltenham, her bag packed with Scottish sirloin beef, black pudding, unsliced Lorne sausages, tattie scones.
He loved his roast beef & very rare steaks, did a sumptuous barbecue.
On a trip to Edinburgh he was most reluctant to go into a veggie restaurant for lunch which my sister had read about in The Guardian.
The food was so good they went back the following day.
He died of pulmonary fibrosis like the singer Robert Goulet and was advising his son about selling shares on his last day in Gloucester Hospital.
He belonged to six wine clubs, was educated at George Watson's School in Edinburgh (a boarder) and always voted Labour.
He would have voted Remain in the EU Referendum.
I can hear him saying that Farage is just a stockbroker with a clever act.

I was watching an old episode of Man at the Top.
Joe Lampton's father-in-law is in a London hotel after a breakfast of fried bread and kidneys which is not part of his diet at home in Yorkshire.
I must try Bosh but I am still thinking of those kidneys on French toast.

  6. What crowds! They are in the right place to publicize their business.

  7. Congratulations to your son and Henry. I went to their tik tok site and then realized my daughter has a tik tok site as well for her cooking. The meals look very good. I may try one.

  9. Your son and his friend have all the success they deserve; they have been working hard to get there and to spread those ideas and practical suggestions which can really make a difference to our planet (and of course to our own lives).

  10. Good to see they are doing so well.

  11. How exciting and I wish them every success. I think we should all eat what we think is right. I personally believe that we should have a varied diet. We do love fish and meat doesn't feature that much in our diet but I do like it but have it in moderation. Everything in moderation, I feel, is a good way to eat but we all make our own choices which is good. XXXX

  12. Well done. He is certainly making a footprint on the world.

  13. I had some Vegan sausages that were foul, and had some Vegan burgers that were very good. I don't think either came from BOSH.

  14. I eat quite a bit of vegetarian meals in my diet and even a few vegan components, but not to often is an entire meal vegan in our household, mostly due to dairy. I have two nieces who "claim" to be vegan but only seem to eat patties of things simulated after hamburgers that come frozen in a box. They really need a good cookbook in their lives.

  15. I just ordered myself a copy of 'BOSH on a Budget'. Their recipes look amazing. (I'm now following them on Instagram.) As the only vegetarian in my house, it's been hard to be an inspired vegetarian cook. I tend to focus on a meat dish for the others while my meal is an afterthought. After watching three of Ian and Henry's videos, my old enthusiasm came rushing back.

  17. You certainly do sound like a proud papa - and you should! They have accomplished a lot! I will have to check out their recipes. Thanks for the links, Neil.

  18. Wishing them even more success.

  19. There was a time when I used BOSH recipes frequently but Sarah has now turned her back on veganism. Her ex was a vegan extremist.

  20. Congrats on all their success. I, too, enjoy a veggie or vegan meal every so often, but do like some chicken or fish when the mood strikes, too.
