Raffle

Oh dear. There's a whole bunch of things I could blog about. Which one should I pick?

It's not always that way. Sometimes I suffer from blogstipation and need to eat fibre-rich breakfast cereals to unclog the blockage. But not today. Today there are ideas aplenty. In fact, the symptoms suggest that I may have bloghorrea.

(Five minute pause)

I wrote all my blogging ideas on little slips of paper and put them in a beer tankard. They were shaken up and I closed my eyes before picking the winner.

The slip said, "YESTERDAY'S WALK".

"Oh not another bloody walk!" mutters Helen in Brisbane.

"So tedious!" exclaims Graham on The Isle of Lewis.

Well I'm sorry, okay? That's what the raffle slip said and I am now obliged to reveal some pictures from the walk I undertook yesterday with Madam Plodding who wanted to spend some time in the gorgeous and very unusual February sunshine.

We drove to the village of Hope and parked on Edale Road near the village school before setting off towards Lose Hill. I didn't even bother with a jacket and Shirley removed her woolly jumper.

I had put a brand new ten pound note in my right trouser pocket but by the time we reached Castleton it had mysteriously disappeared so we had no money to buy drinks and sandwiches. The Bank of England's new banknotes are very slippery things but I should have stuck that tenner in my shirt pocket or in my camera case. What a dumb guy I am!

Still, we enjoyed the walk. The sky was blue. The grass was green and my happiness was bolstered by the fact that Hull City beat Millwall on Tuesday night with goals from Jarrod Bowen and Marc Pugh.

And now, six pictures from that delightful country walk:-

Peveril Castle looming above Castleton

  1. Good that you have many ideas for posts. I write ideas on a list but my list is quickly used up.

  2. What a shame that you couldn't get lunch. That would have ruined my whole day! (Because clearly I am more food-focused than walk-focused) Our newest edition of paper money is plastic money as well. I don't care for it but they didn't ask my opinion so I am stuck with it. They will melt if inadvertantly put through the dryer or stored too close to a heat source such as a radiator. And once they are folded, the creases are more permanently pressed than 1970 polyester slacks.

The beauty of the day comes through well in your pictures.

    1. Plastic money certainly has its disadvantages. By the way, do you wear 1970 polyester slacks Jenny? You seem to know what you are talking about.

    2. Not anymore but I did in the 70s :)

  3. I looked at each picture carefully and I think my favorite is Croft Cottage. I would like to see more of it.

I've suffered from blogstipation recently. I keep writing stuff that's too boring to share, so I delete it.

    1. Why not just make stuff up Jennifer? Your readers would never know.

  4. Like Jennifer, I think my favourite of this lot is Croft Cottage, although it wasn't an easy choice with all of them being great, especially the view between houses towards the castle.

I'd never put money lose in any pocket - I rather make myself a little ridiculous by carrying a rucksack (or handbag, when in town) with my wallet inside. Nonetheless, you had a beautiful walk in the best weather, and I am sure you made up later at home for the sandwiches you coudldn't have earlier.

Three weeks exactly, and I'll be in Yorkshire!!

    1. Sadly, the sunshine has gone this morning. I hope that some of it comes back for you and your nameless but beloved sister in three weeks' time.

  5. The colour of the sky! Wonderful.
Now then. As to losing the ten pound note, there is a rumour that Yorkshire men are mean.......
Did you lose it or did you purposely leave it in your tin box under the bed? 😉

    1. I had £1.42 in coins in my pocket and when we reached Hope I bought a bag of chocolate peanuts and some curly crisps. It was a feast.

  8. What an amazing blue sky ! Though it could be my " new eyes" seeing it so blue. The now clear lenses let a lot more blue light in! ( double cataract op a few weeks ago...it is weird how some colours have changed. ie my grey slippers are now a lovely mauve and everything seems brighter).

  9. I hope good luck crosses your path as you're crossing a path and you find two ten pounds notes to make up for the one that went walkabout!

  10. Think of how happy someone will be to find that ten pound note!
Here's another vote for Croft Cottage.
I frequently sit down and think I'm going to write about one thing but before I know it, I'm writing about something entirely different. My mind has a mind of its own.

  11. I love the image of Peveril Castle. Striking! Sorry you lost that bank note -- that's really annoying, especially when you're hungry! (Don't you have a bank card? I pay for everything by card. I rarely deal with cash, slippery or otherwise, anymore.)

    1. I left my wallet at home - on purpose - thinking that a tenner would be all I might need. You are an ultra-modern guy - using a bankcard for everything - just like my son.

  13. Oh my word. I love all these pictures so much I can't even choose a favorite. I'm an old soul - the old buildings, fences, and paths call to me. I'm thinking you should publish a nice big coffee table book of all your glorious photos for those of us stuck here on the edges of the US and unlikely to ever see your lovely countryside. How 'bout it?
