  2. That's an impressive list! I really need to get out more - I've been to maybe a dozen US states but only *visited* six or seven. Countries? That's an even shorter list: Canada, and Barbados. That's it :/

I think you should try to visit those last few British cities, so you can complete your map. (Unless there's a reason you haven't been there?)

    1. Welcome back Chris. Three of the British cities are in Northern Ireland. It would be a bit of a mission to get to them but I have been to Belfast and Derry> I have always been curious about Wolverhampton and perhaps I should go there for a day or two.

  3. You are indeed very well travelled. I cannot even put a fraction on those first three lists. I could easily out-do you on that fourth list however, as my waistline will probably vouch for!

  4. Impressive your lists may be, but my Librarian mind automatically wants to sort the countries and cities according to the alphabet, and the shopping list into product groups (such as butter next to milk, and all the meaty stuff together).

How do you count a visit to a country? For instance, technically speaking, I have visited two states of the U.S.A.: Florida, where I spent a two-week-holiday in 1999, and New York, where I spent about an hour at the airport in transit to Florida. Now, does New York count?

    1. Yes it does. I have only been to Australia in transit as I have a phobia about kangaroos. Fortunately there were none in the airports of Brisbane or Melbourne apart from some cuddly soft toy kangaroos hanging up in the airport shops.

    2. No, no, no. Unless you spend a week or more and walk, walk, walk, take the subway, take the trains, go over all the bridges, visit my cousin on Long Island, you have not visited New York!!

    3. Okay Big Sis... not "visited" but "been to" which is lesser - just passed through. Mind you, I definitely have been to New York City. I first went there at the age of eighteen - just one night before travelling on to LA the next day. I remember walking in Harlem in the early hours of the morning and chatting with some black dudes hanging about on their stoop. The last time I visited NYC was with my family back in 2003. I drove in from New Jersey during a Friday afternoon thunderstorm. Our hotel was on 9th Street close to Times Square. We had three touristy days there and felt the buzz of that great city...your city.

  5. I dreamed last night that I went to France for a two week visit with Cro. My friend Marla went with me and we were having a good time.

I wish I could travel. I've hardly been anywhere in the USA, and I've never left the country. I'm so afraid I'll never get the chance to travel before I die. Your list is impressive.

    1. I hope you get to do some travelling before you are old Jennifer. Why not start with Canada? Three nights in Montreal would be amazing - though I have never been there myself. You could even drive there, breaking up your journey with a night near or in Philadelphia.

  12. I have been In 38 of the 50 states in the U.S., I think (Mr. Obama thought there were 57). I have NOT been to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, North Dakota, South Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Alaska , or Hawaii. I have set foot in Canada, Mexico, Denmark, Sweden, U.K., The Netherlands, Bermuda, and Bahamas. That's it. No Fiji. No Chile. No Rapa Nui.

  14. Well, there you go!

    You've been everywhere but here.

Perhaps we should use kangaroos as security personnel at our international airport terminals. Unwanted people attempting to travel to and fro might rue the day if confronted by a roo.

You should put your list of countries visited to this humorous old Australian song -

    1. Hang on. I seem to recall that that humorous old Australian song was by Johnny Cash.

    2. Johnny Cash did sing a cover version replacing Aussie names with American.

I had a feeling your response was going to be what you have written, and I was going to put this info in my original comment, but didn't...so now I will...for your information....

""I've Been Everywhere" is a song which was written by Australian country singer Geoff Mack in 1959, and made popular by Lucky Starr in 1962.

The song as originally written listed Australian towns. It was later adapted by Canadian Hank Snow for North American (predominantly United States) toponyms, by Australian singer Rolf Harris with English and Scottish toponyms (1963),[1] and by John Hore (later known as John Grenell) with New Zealand toponyms (1966).

In 1962, the song was a number-one US country hit for Hank Snow. The song was also recorded by Lynn Anderson (USA 1970), Asleep at the Wheel (USA 1973), Johnny Cash (USA 1996), Chip Dockery, Ted Egan, Little Jan Buckner of Wendy Bagwell & The Sunliters (USA 1972), the "Farrelly Brothers" from the television series The Aunty Jack Show (Australia 1974, a parody version, on the album Aunty Jack Sings Wollongong),[3] John Grenell (NZ 1966), Mike Ford (Canada, 2005), Rolf Harris (UK 1963), Clifton Jansky, The Sunny Cowgirls and the Statler Brothers. Harvey Reid also included the song in his Dreamer or Believer album."

That should just about cover it...re the covers! :)

Original singer Lucky Starr released an EP called "Lucky's Been Everywhere", which contained four different versions: United Kingdom, United States, New Zealand, and Australia (Festival Records FX-10.485 (Australia)).

    3. Interesting. Lee! I grew up with Hank Snow's music and remember this one well. I didn't know it was originally by an Aussie.

    4. Yep! True blue, Jenny. :)

    5. Thanks for that background Lee. Interesting. Shame the British Rolf Harris version will now be forever tainted by association.

      Delete
    6. Harris can rot in jail as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't lower myself to play any of his music ever again, nor look at his paintings.

I'm sure we all feel similarly.

Lucky Starr was a pretty big star here in his own right in the early Sixties. Back then we had a couple of good Aussie music TV programmes that promoted Australian artists...Brian Henderson's "Bandstand" and also "Six O'Clock Rock" that was hosted by Johnny O'Keefe.

Music played a big role in our lives. What would we do without music! :)
