Song

My late brother's daughter Katie still resides on the west coast of Ireland. Like  her father, Katie loves to make music. As well as possessing a fine singing voice, she plays whistles, flutes and pipes with skill and feeling.

Recently, she made a studio recording of a song by Finbar Furey. He is well-known in traditional Irish music circles. The song is called "I Remember You Singing This Song" and when I first heard it I was blown away. Katie sings it so perfectly in my view. She is now entering middle-age and so brings her experience of life to this song. It's there in every phrase and every note. Please see what you think:-
The song is available on Apple i-tunes. Go here.

  1. Ahh, beautifully done. There is significant influence from both Scotland and Ireland in the music here on the east coast of Canada so this tune is quite similar to what we hear and love in our traditional music. Your niece has a wonderful gift.

  4. Katie has a beautifully mellow voice just perfect for the song. Coincidentally I'd been thinking of my parents this morning so it was a very apt song too for my mood. I loved it.

  11. She has an amazing voice and should be better known or is she already well known in Ireland? She should be encouraged to go for something like the x factor or BGT to get discovered on a bigger scale. You do have a talented family.

    1. True of aficionados of Irish music in Ireland know about Katie but she has never made an album and her talent is not known amongst the general populace. Perhaps this song will spark something. I hope so.
