Tony

Old friend Tony was over in Sheffield for the weekend.

We saw our team, Hull City, sadly thrashed by Sheffield United  on Saturday afternoon. In the evening, we went for lovely curry meals in "Urban Choola" before calling in at the local pub for a pint. It was very noisy so after we had supped up we came home to watch "Match of the Day".
On Sunday morning, I made bacon sandwiches followed by hunks of melon. Then we went out into the diamond blue morning for a circular walk by Stanage Edge. Tony hadn't been up there for years because he moved away from Sheffield almost thirty years ago.
We all enjoyed the walk and the lovely colours that the autumn sunshine defined. Long time visitors to this blog may vaguely remember some of my previous solitary excursions to Stanage Edge. It was nice to be up there with Mrs Pudding and Tony. I was the best man at his wedding twenty nine years ago.
It's nice to have a friend like Tony. We have so much mutual history and later this month we shall attend his youngest daughter's wedding back in East Yorkshire. It should be a happy and memorable event even though Tony split from his wife a few years back. It was painful and acrimonious. That''s how the world often seems to go these days

  1. It sounds like you three had a lovely time together...much reminiscing going on, I'm sure. :)

It's such a pity when couples have acrimonious break-ups. I feel fortunate, in that, even though, I married and divorced twice...I am still on good terms with both my exes. I would hate it to be otherwise.

My second ex, Randall and I talk via the phone every other day. He and I met when we were both 18...got engaged on his 21st and then he headed off overseas on his nine year odyssey. In the meantime, I married another...in honesty...on the rebound....but, as I stated above, he and I, too, remain on good terms.

    1. It's good that you enjoy friendly relations with your two exes. From what you have said about Randall in the past, I suppose that you loved him with all your heart.

  3. Hardly a better way to spend a weekend than with good friends, hearty meals and a walk in such beautiful landscape in the kind of weather you were having!
Now I am determined to make bacon sandwiches for O.K. and myself when he will be here next weekend.

The second picture is my favourite of this lot. The silhouettes of the two small figures on top of the rocks add something special to it.

  4. I'm not familiar with Stanage Edge; the mill stones are clearly a feature of the area. I shall have to google it now.

    1. It's a playground for Sheffield people and visitors to the area. Very popular with rock climbers.

    1. Over at the geograph.co.uk website, another contributor once referred to me as "The King of Stanage Edge" which is a label I rather like.
