She is my third grandchild. Little Margot. Born on November 2nd last year. She hardly ever cries and seems supremely contented. She continues to feed on her mother's milk which must be remarkably nutritious.
Of course I have held her in my arms many times. She is now quite a weight! I look into her sparkly sapphire blue eyes and sometimes sing to her. As well as loving her, I also get the feeling that she is very peaceful. It is the word that comes to my mind each time I see her. I suppose this might change as time carries us forward but at the moment she radiates peacefulness.
I never applied that term to Phoebe, nor to my own two children when they were babies but with Little Margot there is a calm contentment about her, an acceptance of what life is.
Oh my goodness, Phoebe and Margot look alike. They quite beautiful. Imagine being born contented and easy going. I can't imagine that but I'm so thankful that there are people and babies in the world like that.
ReplyDeleteSurely it cannot last forever but possibly personalities can be established in babyhood.
DeleteMargot really is so adorable. Calm and peaceful often happens in second or later babies. The firstborn sometimes picks up on minor tensions in the parents as they learn this new job of parenting, "am I doing it right? what if I make a mistake?"
ReplyDeleteYou speak wisely on this subject Elsie.
DeleteShe is a beautiful sight to behold. But just wait until she's a teenager with blue hair and a pierced nose. Then you'll wonder . . .
ReplyDeleteYou might well be right though I may not live to witness it.
DeleteI like the sparkling blue eyes which are full of fun.
ReplyDeleteShe was at our house this evening - an angelic presence.
DeletePutting littles in laundry baskets is a mother's or grandmother's trick, I reckon, so I'm guessing Shirley.
ReplyDeleteI think if young Margot appears very peaceful, she will probably retain that lifelong.
On your last point I very much hope you are right. By the way our Ian is in Sydney right now!
DeleteOh wow! Welcome to him! What's he up to?
DeleteIt's not a holiday. It's business. Meeting, presentations, media work etc. and then down to Melbourne for a couple of days. However, he got to see Bondi Beach yesterday.
DeleteShe's a ray of sunshine! If only all babies could have such peace and contentment.
ReplyDeleteIs Phoebe settling into her role as big sister?
To tell you the truth, Phoebe mostly ignores Margot!
DeleteUntil Margot starts crawling and gets into Phoebe's toys.
DeleteA very pretty plump little pudding.
ReplyDeleteShe just requires a dollop of custard.
DeleteWhat a beautiful contented baby she looks. Let there be no flare-ups, as I listened to my two granddaughters yesterday one winding the other up, between the two sisters.
ReplyDeleteTime will reveal all.
DeleteYou are going to need a bigger laundry basket.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter finds Margot to be a big weight to carry.
DeleteSeeing that first photo of her together with your drawn profile picture of yourself in the top right corner of my computer screen, I'm struck by quite a resemblance between the two of you! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting.
DeleteWhat a lucky man you are to have such a beautiful and contented granddaughter. I agree with River's comments about a first child. Phoebe was the steep learning curve and Margot has benifitted from that. Is Phoebe still happy with her little sister?
ReplyDeleteUsually Phoebe ignores Margot which is a little sad to witness.
DeleteYou are truly blessed to have such beautiful grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteFive years ago, I might have guessed that we would never be grandparents.
DeleteShe's beautiful, Neil. Just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAnd healthy too. A "normal" baby which is a great blessing.
DeleteA future Prime Minister growing up fast.
ReplyDeleteI hope to God that she doesn't become anything like Margaret Thatcher.
DeletePrecious moments captured in a photo.
ReplyDeleteOur ancestors only had their memories - no pictures.
DeleteI think second babies are sometimes like that- peaceful and accepting and full of smiles. She does favor her sister and thus, is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIn her quiet, peaceful and innocent way she is making her presence felt.
DeleteShe's such a beauty, Neil! I will finally see my newest grandson in 8 days as I am flying to Houston next weekend. I will love to hold him in my arms!
ReplyDeleteGosh, I hope they grow up to have a wonderful, peaceful life!
It is a different world from the one that we were born into Ellen. I hope you have a lovely break in Houston. Don't squeeze your new grandson too hard!
DeleteShe really is beautiful. I don't say that lightly, because I'm not one who finds all babies/children cute.
ReplyDeleteThat is so kind of you to say Kelly.
DeleteSome babes..some people..are just that, radiating calm.
ReplyDeleteAnd equally some radiate stress and dissatisfaction.
DeleteShe does appear very contented. I don't know if there is much truth to the thought that babies pick up on the moods of their mothers.
ReplyDeleteShe looks quite happy to be in the laundry basket!
