Teresa

Teresa May - glamour model
It is easy to get names mixed up. For example, our lovely daughter Frances often finds her name being mis-spelt in the masculine form - Francis. I guess that all Franceses and Francises have to battle with this - like all Lesleys and Leslies.

Very recently, over in Washington D.C., our esteemed prime minister was visiting that  Trump thing. You probably noticed this on your television screen or computer. It seems that in some of the official U.S. documentation, Theresa May's first name was wrongly spelt in the alternative manner - Teresa.

This was a very embarrassing mistake because there is in fact an English glamour model called Teresa May. In 1997, she appeared in the music video for The Prodigy's single "Smack My Bitch Up". She moved into acting later in her career in B movies such as "Exterminator City" and "One Man and his Dog". In addition to films, this alternative Teresa May has appeared in numerous tabloids and men's magazines including "Hustler", "Men Only", and "Razzle". Yes - this other Teresa May has been around the block and for that reason, I suspect that she is the kind of woman that The Donald is more used to dealing with.

He must have been very excited sitting behind his desk in The Oval Office, flicking through back copies of  "Hustler", waiting for Teresa May to turn up. Instead he got this Theresa May:-
Oh dear! Not quite the same... but Trump still grabbed her hand. It is to be hoped that he didn't grab anything else.

  1. Hahahaha. I can just picture his face when she walked into the room. I did wonder whether he'd fling her across the couch rather than get down to discussing waterboarding, but he showed extreme constraint.

    1. He was being very presidential in front of the cameras...but like Melania and Philip we will never know what happened behind the closed doors of The Oval Office. It is rumoured that there were Tarzan-like yells from within.

  2. So it was worth hanging on to your collection of Hustler, Razzle and Men Only mags that have been gathering dust under the spare bed!

  3. Hahaha!!!!! Good one!

Have you seen the old photos of Melania Trump from her modeling days? They're...racy.

    1. Unlike some members of the male population - possibly including Gregg (?) - I don't spend my spare time looking at pictures of racy Slovenian models on the internet.

  4. Our Teresa didn't hold on to his hand for long - excruciating body language - who would want to be a politician! There is a lot to despair about but at least in Blighty our politicians don't have to be millionaires in order run for office.

    1. Some of ours become millionaires after leaving office like that well-known man of the people - Tony Blair. But Cameron was a millionaire when he entered office. Unlike Trump, it is something he liked to keep quiet about.

    1. Perhaps we should have made the glamour model our new PM. It would certainly have livened up Prime Minister's Question Time on a Wednesday morning.

  6. I think we have been on about this before, either on your blog or mine; I simply find it a sign of disrespect when not enough care is taken to make sure someone's name is spelled correctly.
Sometimes emails reach me addressed to "Mike Riley", simply because people are too lazy to check that I am not - and have never been - Mike, but Meike.
I always, always correct them, no matter how picky that may appear.

    1. ...But it is funny how some people bristle when you kindly point out their errors. Sometimes it is as if they blame the messenger, not their own inaccuracy.

  7. When Trump refer's to a 'special relationship' I think one would need to know exactly what he means (?) rather than relying on history...

    1. Down at Miami Beach, Trump used to have a very different understanding of the term "special relationship". It involved $100 bills and cigars.

  8. You wonder about the important things like gripping the proper anatomy. I don't think we've heard the last of Trump's historical misbehavior . I think he will continue with his deviant behavior.

    1. Trump seems to be very adept at burying the truth or turning it upside down. Perhaps he will get away with his seedy history.

  12. If/when I have to communicate (written word) with anyone who does not know/has not met me in person I always place "(Ms)" after my name, to help clarify the situation for them.

It can be confusing to some if they've not met me in person. My name can be male or female...both my Christian name, "Lee" and my middle name "Frances" (although the spelling is different for the genders - but some aren't aware of that fact). To add to the "confusion" my surname is "George". You, perhaps, can understand some are confused; but then many are easily confused!

To confuse the confused even further, my name can be swung around either which way. "George Francis Lee" and other reversals...if I was a male; or a couple with the feminine spelling of "Frances", as well. And, of course, "Lee" can also be "Leigh"! I've rarely gotten the latter.

I'm never offended if, by written communication by strangers, I'm mistakenly called "Mr". I probably wouldn't be offended if I was mistakenly called "Mr" when face to face with a stranger, either. They would be the one who had the problem, not me. Their problem would be with their eyes and ears. To lighten their embarrassment, I'd even offer to make the necessary appointments for them.

I think what annoys me most (and probably only) is when people assume by saying or writing - "Mrs" when referring to me. I promptly set them straight. Politely, with a smile, I say (or write - without a smile) - '"Lee" is my name.' Even when I was married I cringed when called "Mrs". I don't know why...just a personal thing, I guess. I have a name and prefer to be called by that name.

    1. I can see how your names might lead to confusion. As for the appellation "Mrs", it is noteworthy that when a bacheLor gets married he remains a "Mr". There is no change to indicate that he is now a married man. Although my wife bears my surname in the traditional manner, I rather think that if the boot had been on the other foot I would have felt somewhat resentful about changing my birth surname.

    2. I wasn't resentful about changing my surname/s. I'd be forever resentful if that were to be the case.

My birth name was "Nicholson"...then, when our mother re-married it changed into "Hill"...that surname lasted longer than the monster who bore the name - he got the boot, thankfully, after a few years (by the cops).

"Hill" surname lated until I married the first time. I've been married twice, as I'm sure you recall. I've kept "George", my second husband's surname. Primarily because I like the name and believe it sits well with my first name. Secondly, I couldn't be bothered going through all the rigmarole involved in changing it.

I am who I am...a thorny rose by any name, but one who prefers to be called by her first name - a rose by any other name would smell as sweet! Which reminds me I must top up my perfume supplies! :)

    3. Some modern day female musical artistes have a single stage name.. Beyonce, Adele, Rihanna, Madonna. If you were to change your name to one of these which would you pick and why? Or perhaps you'd prefer... Thorny.

  13. I only use my middle name of Frances when commenting on blogs, but it is often spelt incorrectly when replying to me....mainly by a certain N. Wales resident!! I have corrected another blogger and he now does it right, but I can't bring myself to be nit picking with the delightful JG !!
