Worksop

Earlier today I caught a train to the town of Worksop in North Nottinghamshire. The journey took less than half an hour. It was a lovely day - quite springlike. I walked east from Worksop railway station and out into the countryside. My ramble took in a small country estate that clusters around a grand house called Osberton Hall. After four and a half hours I was back at the railway station and on my way home as the sun began to set where it always sets - over in the west on its way to America and beyond.

    1. Australia comes after America as the sun appears to move round The Earth. I think that the locals found the aroma of my aftershave lotion quite sexy. It's called "Eau de Bullshit".

    2. Actually, as I type it is 3.45 am 11th January, Californian time...and it is 9.46 pm 11th January, Aussie time...so we are ahead of the States...

  3. Really nice shots.

Lucky you, with spring like weather. We had three feet of snow on Wednesday.

    1. Oops - I meant two feet. Drifts were three feet in places - including our driveway.

  4. Beautiful pictures and a nice train ride too! I particularly like the third picture taken through the brick opening. I see you found more of your cattle brethren while on your walk.

  8. That brilliant blue sky alone is enough to draw outdoors anyone who can walk! Those two black-coated fellows must have been wondering about you, and pretty Miss Sheep is obviously expertly posing for the camera.

  11. Eh? Australia gets the sun first and loses it first. "Eau de Bullshit" indeed. Of course the real question is where was the sun when earth was created or vice versa? Or......? My brain just exploded.

  12. Wonderful photos, as always.

I did have a bit of a laugh when I scrolled down to the one of the cows...and then the one of the sheep (excellent). It made me wonder if the cattle and sheep around there have some kind of telepathy that lets them know you are around and that it's time to pose. :)

    1. I guess I am a bit like Dr Dolittle:-
If we could talk to the animals, just imagine it
Chatting to a chimp in chimpanzee
Imagine talking to a tiger, chatting to a cheetah
What a neat achievement that would be.

(For chimpanzee and tiger please insert cow and sheep)

  13. Another beautiful jaunt! You do live in a gorgeous place. My favorite shot has to be the daintily posing sheep.

  14. Looks like a good day for a walk and blowing away the cobwebs. Lovely pictures. I love that sheep - not quite sure whether to put his foreleg down and go further or not.

  15. Lovely photos and like Ms. Moon, I love the photo of the sheep. You're lucky to have fine weather. We're in the middle of a deep freeze -21C and it's supposed to go down to -34C next week. Sigh. It will pass. I'm thankful for central heating.

    1. Hell! Minus 21C! If your central heating boiler should break down it would be more than just inconvenient! It could be life threatening.

    2. Oh wow! Minus 21ºC - there am I complaining because it was +7ºC this morning - and that's cold for us!

  16. I'm so impressed you get out and about so much even on these short winter days. At least it's not cold right now. Great pictures, as usual! (At first I thought your title was a typo for "workshop" -- I thought, "That's not like YP!")

    1. I have always thought that the place name Worksop is odd and it often brings the word "workshop" to mind. I looked at the etymology. The suffix "op" or "hop" means valley and "Wyrc" may have been the first chief or landowner in Saxon times - hence Wyrc-hop or Wyrc's valley.

  17. Excellent pics again YP.
Surely you can converse with the sheep and cows - you just need the right Moo or Baa!
