Poem

"I just feel completely disconnected from myself lately. I don't even know who
I am any more..." - Ms Moon "Bless Our Hearts" (a blog from northern Florida)

Who I Am

That unshakeable
Shadow stretching
In silver streetlight.
Photographs stored
In disorderly drawers...
Somebody else’s memory.
Written words
Like flotsam,
Old paintings.
Documents.
Familiar face reflected
Again and again
And yet and yet
It is easy to forget
Who you are...
Really.
Shall we look for ourselves between the lines
Or in the voids that follow our melodious rhymes?

    1. Those words of yours - they just stuck in my head Ms Moon. I can't say why.

  2. That just can't be what you are feeling, is it? Seems a little morose for you, my friend. Are you still painting?

    1. I would not say that that is how I am feeling Donna. It was just those words from Ms Moon that stirred me. I have a little oil painting project in mind and I know I should get on with it.

  3. Sometimes writing a poem, even a somewhat sad one, can lift one's mood.

    1. That is a good point Mr C. A sad or morose poem can be like an act of helpful release.

  4. That is a lovely poem. Did Ms.Moon write it or did you YP? Either way, I like it and I think I understand it. We come to a point in life where there is so much behind us and so much within us that maybe our true selves do lie between the lines.

    1. Thank you for this reflection Bonnie. I wrote the poem but Ms Moon accidentally inspired it.

    1. Sometimes - when I write poems - I deliberately avoid spelling things out clearly. Then a reader can draw their own conclusions Briony.

  6. I like your poems. I wish I had the courage to write poetry. I haven't done it since high school, and I could never bear to let anyone read it.

Ms. Moon is a wonderful writer, and her posts always give me a lot to think about.

    1. Since the age of seven, poems have emerged from me. I cannot help myself. It just happens. Give it a go Jennifer. Give it a go.

  7. Buddha would say that we have no self anyway. We are different from moment to moment, as variable as the wind.

    1. And that is a fascinating notion too...

  8. I have no experience with this feeling at all. I've always felt securely connected to myself. I wonder if it has anything to do with staying primarily in one place my whole life. Very intriguing.

    1. Is that an upper case i, a lower case L, or the numeral one??? :D

    2. Ha-ha! Good point Jenny and if "I" might say a rather poetic point too. It's an upper case i!

  9. There are times I can't read between the lines...so how can I look between the lines?

Well written, Yorkie. Thanks for sharing. :)

    1. Thanks Lee. Maybe you need to visit an optician.
