I was confined to barracks for two days because we were having new flooring fitted in our kitchen. First there was screeding to do in the concrete section of the kitchen and the downstairs shower room. Then there was plywood to nail down in the floorboarded half of the kitchen. Afterwards the vinyl had to be carefully fitted. Oh - and I forgot to say, I had to move the fridge, the washing machine, the tumble dryer and all the other stuff you find in kitchens with utility areas.
The job was done by a tall fellow called Chris but his work friend Steve came to adjust the doors and kickboards. Together they did a good job but because of their work I was homebound on two lovely, sunny spring days.
Yesterday afternoon I made a concerted effort to make up for my confinement by driving over to The Rivelin Valley. It's only ten minutes away - on the western edge of Sheffield. I parked Clint, donned my boots and set off. The pictures that follow provide glimpses of my day and of this splendid time of year.

I love the old stone bridge over the river and the field of daffodils. A nice treat for you after being stuck at home while the home improvements went on.

DeleteThe flooring jobs have to be done even though it's a pain.
ReplyDeleteI hate having workmen in our house. It puts me on edge.
DeleteIt is good the flooring jobs took only 2 days - more often than not, something comes up during what was expected to be a straightforward job, and the whole process takes longer and becomes more expensive than planned.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that the good weather held out for you long enough to enjoy the gorgeous spring sunshine yesterday. It was beautiful enough for us to sit on the bench in front of the cottage with our teas and coffees here in Ripon, too.
Now we are going to have our last coffee here for at least another year, then it's packing time, and at 9:00, my sister-in-law will take us to the train station in Harrogate.
You struck lucky with the Weather this year. Have a safe trip back to Ludwigsburg.

DeleteYorkshire is beautiful at the moment but getting colder next week. I love packhorse bridges, but we have to go over one tovMalton, it is humped and of course single track, difficult to see over and there are always car backing away down from it. Just doesn't fit in the 21st Century....
ReplyDeleteThe packhorse bridge in my picture is only wide enough for people and...err... packhorses! No four wheel motor vehicle has ever passed over it.
