"My Sharona" by The Knack (1979) has been widely revised since we entered the pandemic. Musically inclined folk have been tempted to play around with the name Sharona - changing it to Corona instead.
Come on everybody, let's sing along!
Ooh, my little pretty one, my pretty one
When you gonna give me some time, Sharona
Ooh, you make my motor run, my motor run
Got it coming off o' the line, Sharona
Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind
I always get it up, for the touch of the younger kind
My, my, my, aye-aye, whoa!
M-m-m-my Sharona
Come a little closer, huh, a-will ya, huh?
Close enough to look in my eyes, Sharona
Keeping it a mystery, it gets to me
Running down the length of my thigh, Sharona
Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind
I always get it up, for the touch of the younger kind
My, my, my, aye-aye, whoa!
M-m-m-my Sharona
M-m-m-my Sharona
When you gonna give to me, a gift to me
Is it just a matter of time, Sharona?
Is it d-d-destiny, d-destiny
Or is it just a game in my mind, Sharona?
Never gonna stop, give it up, such a dirty mind
I always get it up, for the touch of the younger kind
My, my, my, aye-aye, whoa!
M-m-m-m-m-m-m-my, my, my, aye-aye, whoa!
M-m-m-my Sharona
M-m-m-my Sharona
M-m-m-my Sharona
M-m-m-my Sharona
Ooooooo-ohhh, my Sharona
Ooooooo-ohhh, my Sharona
Funnily enough, O.K. and I re-discovered this song just a week or two before it was being picked up by many and turned into versions like "Why Corona" and so on. For the past 10 years or so, it has been regularly played at 70s parties at one of the local clubs where I sometimes went dancing with my friends, but it's only now that it has really gone viral (pun intended).
ReplyDeleteWere The Knack ever famous for anything else? I only know this one song by them.
I think they were one hit wonders. They just couldn't get the knack of writing hits songs (pun intended).
DeleteYes I remember this track YP. I think the lead singer died from Cancer a few years ago? I watched Blondie singing Ring Of Fire yesterday. She was an is an incredible singer and beautiful woman. Forty years ago and still classic hits.
ReplyDeleteFunny how songs from long ago are still with us Northsider.
DeleteI remember when this was a hit, but I was personally not a fan. Have you heard Weird Al Yankovic's version, "My Bologna"?
ReplyDeleteYou asked about the Blogger image issue. I wasn't even aware some of my pictures had been affected, but I've seen this on other blogs. According to Blogger, they're aware of the issue and working on a fix:

(I assume the pictures will come back once they get it sorted.)
DeleteThanks for doing that research Steve. Oh and I have not heard "My Bologna". I will check it out soon.
DeleteOh yes, I remember this song well. As Steve mentioned, I also remember Weird Al Yankovic's version, "My Bologna". Are you familiar with Weird Al? If you like tongue in cheek you might like some of his music.
