Milestones

Last week two milestones were reached on the very same day. The official worldwide number of COVID-19 deaths  hit two million and the number of visitors to "Yorkshire Pudding" since June 2005  reached the same figure. That's a lot of "hits".

It's as if the entire population of Perth (Western Australia) or Minsk (Belarus) have either died from the virus or they have visited my blog. I would like to think that the latter might have been  a better choice though some contrarians might disagree with that. Ah well, I know that I tried my best.

It is likely that COVID has in fact  claimed the lives of far more than two million people. Calculation in western countries is pretty comprehensive but what about more challenging, less developed countries like Malawi, Bolivia, India or Egypt? In such countries accurate tallying is far more problematic. Maybe we will never know the true death figure.

Thanks to Yorkshire Pudding visitors past and present for tarrying here from time to time. Much appreciated. Onward to three million.

  1. LOL! Wasn't even my blog, and I was excited by that. I wanted to be the 2,000,000th visitor, but I came back to it at the end of the day and you were past it by 150+! My shot at fame, lost. LOST, I tell you.

  2. Congratulations on your Yorkshire Pudding visitors milestone. I believe 10 million people in the world die of cancer every year.

    1. Such a horrible thing. Surely one of the very worst combinations of words is "I have got cancer".

  3. I can't describe how painful it is, the carpel tunnel syndrome I have from all that clicking.

  4. Congrats on your Milestone... the COVID Milestone just numbs me tho', those numbers being staggering and not just statistics, but each a Human Being with a Life, Loved Ones and a Future cut short.

    1. It is of no comfort that the majority of the dead have been old or with underlying health concerns. It is so tragic that they had to end their days like this isn't it Bohemian?

  5. That's pretty impressive! (Your blog visitation, I mean.) I don't think I've kept any kind of running tally but I suppose when a person's been blogging as long as we have we're bound to rack up the visits. (I started a year after you!)

    1. I am not obsessed with the numbers but I am glad I included a counting device from the beginning.

  6. Congratulations, Mr. P!
    Now, um.... more baby news?
As to those not counted in the Covid deaths- I think of the many countries in Central and South America where there are no doubt many unreported deaths as well.

    1. Baby news. Phoebe was sick on the quilt that Frances and her mama made with love two weeks ago. The breast feeding is going pretty well though Frances is now sore in that area.

  8. Well done. That's a lot of visits. You started me thinking. You blog almost every day and, over the years, have covered many subjects and, with a single word title, probably a great many unusual subjects. It's no wonder you have had so many visitors. I don't have a counter on the blog and have absolutely no idea who or how many people happen upon Eagleton Notes. I must have a look.

Clearly people like what you write. I expect you are right about the number who have died in less developed countries.

  11. You've done well! I've been blogging for approximately the same length of time and only had 68 000, though I have set it up so it doesn't count my own because a single post, including comments and revisions could easily reach 20, especially when I'm trying to learn a new skill

  13. Congratulations, Neil! The counter is at 2,004,893 as I am typing this. I wonder whether I am # 2,004,894 then.
Today, the heads of our federal states are meeting with Frau Merkel to discuss what's to be done reg. Covid. We expect the current lockdown, originally scheduled to end on Jan 31, will last well into February. Some measures may become stricter than before. I just hope the curfew will not be shifted from 8:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and range of mobility cut down to 15 km. But if it is so, I shall stick to it.

    1. Thanks. Please don't worry. If you do break the new rules I will not be informing the authorities in your corner of Deutschland. By the way - just for your information - the photo book has not yet arrived.

    2. Thank you for letting me know about the book. I imagine that with the new rules in place since Brexit, non-priority mail takes a lot longer than before. Also, I had to fill in a customs declarations form. Maybe right now the customs people are reading our book, because they needed to make sure I stated the contents of the package correctly and have not included any illegal substances, forged money or a fake passport.

    3. No illegal substances included? Oh, that is terribly disappointing. I heard that Baden-Württemberg hashish is excellent. Personally, I blame Brexit for the delay.
