I love this picture of our Phoebe. She is now a day old. Frances took the photograph with her smartphone. As I write, they are both still in the maternity hospital.
But this is the very first picture that was ever taken of her. She is in the midwife's arms and she is singing, "Tutti frutti, oh Rudy / A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo!" See how she grasps the imaginary microphone so expertly:-
What a beautiful baby! Phoebe is precious. Have you gotten to hold her yet, Neil?
ReplyDeleteNo I haven't Jennifer. It looks like mother and baby will stay in the maternity hospital a second night. Just a precautionary measure.
DeleteOf course she is the. most beautiful baby in the universe at this moment! Glad that your daughter could stay in the comfort of maternal/baby care for more than the 12 hours afforded us in this country. Great idea for you to have purchased daily papers on the date of her birth. Brilliant. You are a fab grand dad!
ReplyDeleteNormally in England new mothers and babies have to leave maternity hospitals within a few hours of the birth but Frances and Phoebe are staying in for a second night. Nothing to worry about though.
DeleteA rock'n'roll baby.
ReplyDelete"Baby Love" by The Supremes. Not really rock n'roll.
DeleteShe looks adorable all swaddled and wearing that pretty little beanie (Aussie for knitted head covering usually worn in Winter). She looks like a May Gibbs (Australian children's author) character from Sugglepot and Cuddlepie.
ReplyDeleteHa-ha! I just saw the cover of that book. I see what you mean Carol.
DeleteShe is beautiful....and I am not one to think all babies are ! The hat she has in the first picture looks just like the one I knitted for my first grandchild (Girl) though it was purple!
ReplyDeleteI am pleased she meets with you approval Frances Senior.
DeleteAhh.. she is so very beautiful. Lucky Puddings.
ReplyDeleteA blessing in a pandemic.
DeleteShe is precious! I am happy for the new parents and grandparents. Becoming a grandparent is the most wonderful experience!
ReplyDeleteAfter thirty six hours, I would say that you are right Bonnie.
DeleteAbsolutely perfect.
ReplyDeleteAccurate summary Sue.
DeleteAwake or asleep that perfect little face will chase away the winter blues.
ReplyDelete...and the COVID blues too. Thanks John.
DeleteWhat a perfect, beautiful little bud of life! Oh my, how I envy you and Shirley. Getting to be grandparents. Holding those little hands, pinching those little cheeks, smelling the sweetness of a new baby's smell. All the wonders of the earth can be found in that lovely little bundle that has come to all of you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely comment Donna. We will get to meet her properly on Sunday. Frances was discharged from the maternity hospital at 9.30pm on Saturday night.
DeleteNew borns are often quite unattractive, not that you ever say that about a new baby, but Phoebe actually looks quite sweet.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Steve. Most newborns don't look all that great for a couple of weeks, which of course you would never say aloud. Your granddaughter, however, is one of those rare newborns that looks pretty like a little doll!
DeleteYou all must be over the moon! What a sweet little bud of a baby girl. What a blessing.
Quite sweet? Rather like the high riser from Melbourne's comment!
DeleteOh isn't she just beautiful!!! I love that she began serenading everyone just as soon as she was born! Congratulations all around once again!
ReplyDeleteShirley and I will meet her in the flesh tomorrow. Thanks for your sweet comment Debby.
DeleteOh she's beautiful. How wise of Frances and Stewart to make that decision to move back to Sheffield. Technology is wonderful but it is no substitute for a cuddle and the smell of a newborn baby. My knitting needles are now in overdrive in anticipation of our own mystery delivery in April.
ReplyDeleteAdele
Don't create so much friction with your knitting needles they start a house fire Adele!
DeleteShe is absolutely gorgeous and I say that as someone who has seen many newborns. I can't wait until you relate your first experience with holding her.
ReplyDeleteAll being well that should happen this afternoon (Sunday).
DeletePhoto of her sleeping is a winner. What good looking kid!
ReplyDeleteIn that regard I believe she takes after her grandpa.
DeleteShe is beautiful, of course! Welcome to the wonderful state of grandparenthood. My youngest, of two, grandsons is a Capricorn and he is a pistol (American slang for "a very energetic or enterprising person.") Enjoy! x0x0 N2
ReplyDeleteThank you N2 - I have never before heard the word "pistol" being used like that.
DeletePrecious little 😊😊😊
ReplyDeletePrecious little three headed emoji?
Delete"little" subs as a noun!
DeleteA beautiful child indeed. I love her little hat.xx
ReplyDeleteLet's hope she stays beautiful and becomes a glamour model. Thank you Christina.
DeleteWhat a beautiful little one Phoebe is, and such a treasured member of your family, try not to spoil her.
ReplyDeleteThat will be impossible Thelma!
DeleteThank you for sharing those precious first pictures of your precious first grandchild! And you will meet her properly today, how exciting!
ReplyDeleteI wish every baby such a welcome, their arrival being expected with so much anticipation and then being greeted with so much love and affection.
Frances and Phoebe came out of the maternity hospital at 9.30 last night. We expect to meet her priperly later today. Thanks for your kind words Meike.
DeleteShe looks so peaceful in that first picture. A right little Yorkshire Pudding.
ReplyDeleteA new Yorkshire pudding is risen!
DeleteShe's gorgeous YP - you and Shirley must already be the proudest grandparents on the planet! I hope that little Phoebe will grow up in a better world than the one right now.
ReplyDeleteShe is just going to have to make the best of things CG and yes she is indeed gorgeous.
DeleteWell it doesn't look as though you'll run out of topics anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how blog topics have kept coming to the surface of my mind for almost sixteen years.
DeleteShe's got the cutest little baby face - just adorable. I know you'll have so much fun with her, being a grandparent is awesome!
ReplyDeleteWe do seem to have been blessed with an especially pretty baby Jo!
DeleteI know how you love (and are so good at) taking photos of landscapes, but I have a feeling little Ms. Phoebe will be your favorite subject from now on. A real beauty.
ReplyDeleteI guess I will be tracking her development in pictures until the day she says, "Grandpa STOP TAKING PICTURES OF ME! JUST BACK OFF!"
DeleteWonderful, wonderful. Happy New Year indeed.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your vicarious delight Linda.
DeleteShe is so beautiful! Enjoy being a grandpa. I imagine you will teach her how take long walks, take photos, and use her imagination to it's fullest. She is a lucky little girl.
ReplyDeleteI will also teach her how to rugby tackle burglars.
DeleteAdorable! Can't wait to hear how your first meeting goes!
ReplyDeleteSee the next blogpost Steve.
DeleteHow gorgeous! There is a theory that you can see aspects of personality (such as extraversion and introversion) right from the start. If that’s so, so looks like she will keep you busy and entertained. Best wishes all. Jean
